Information

The proven and probable ore reserves at December 31st, 1999 contained 1,725,000 ounces of gold. This was a net decrease of 304,000 ounces from the reserves at December 31st, 1998, which contained 2,029,000 ounces. Depletion due to mining was 350,000 ounces and the increase in reserves was 46,000 ounces of gold.

Open pit reserves will be depleted in five years (2004). Although underground reserves are not defined past the life of the open pit, underground mining is expected to continue. Stockpiled ore is expected to sustain mill operations until the year 2007.

Reconciliation is done on a yearly basis. The purpose is to determine the accuracy and to prove the geological reserves. During the working year, a close attention was paid to the grade, tonnage and mined ounces. This information was compared against the geological reserve estimates prepared for the stopes that were mined. Mill assays and monthly reports are closely scrutinized against the reserves and a margin of error is calculated. The reconciliation of the ore reserves at the David Bell mine has proven the margin of error to be less than 10%.
